Kanoa's Taro, 1995
On a week long stay in Keanae, I spent each morning exploring the incredible taro ponds behind our cabin. Each pond is unique and is fed by a different branch of the water coming off the mountain. Each pond has a path leading to the next, often with walk-board bridges over a burbling spillway. One path leads to another, all through the peninsula. I was lucky enough to come across Isaac Kanoa harvesting a full grown pond of taro. It amazed me how beautiful and healthy the leaves were surrounding Isaac. It is moments such as this that ask to be painted into permanent memory.
