Kiawes at Keawakapu, 1986
I painted this piece almost entirely on location at Keawakapu Beach in Wailea. Usually, the experience of painting on location is a solitary one. Most of my work deals with places that are quiet and remote. At Keawakapu, I was constantly surrounded by people looking over my shoulder as the painting progressed.
You'll notice that I painted the beach as if it were empty of people, but I did enjoy their company.
